Review your car’s manual first

Prior to purchasing or renting a car seat for your child, read the car’s manual. This is to find out where the car seat should be put and how it will be installed. Car seats can be attached using the seat belt or the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system. Knowing this, it will be easier for you to decide on what car seat you should hire or buy.

Measure your back seat

Always take into consideration how many and who will sit in the back seat or if you’re going with the wee bub, how much gear will be stashed in the back with the baby. You have to measure the back seat as well before shopping for a car seat as some car seats are bulky and may not fit comfortably.

Consider your child’s height, age, and weight

For infants or newborns, it is strongly recommended that they ride in rear-facing seats as this is the safest position. Forward-facing seats are recommended for children aged at least 2 years or above, or those who have reached the maximum weight or height capacity of the car seat. Lastly, the booster seat can be used for kids weighing more than 40 pounds.
