The Lasseter Highway

Aussie outback

Take your time through the Lasseter Highway and drink in the beauty around you. Majestic Uluru will be your starting point. One of Australia’s most impressive and popular tourist destinations, the site is awe inspiring, especially at sunset. When you’re ready to head out further, just take the short three hours ride over to the Kings Canyon. If you take the longer routes down Red Centre Way, and want to start off at Alice Springs, plan for an extra few days. You will want to stop and explore the Aboriginal rocks and the historic towns along the way.

Island getaway

For a unique island getaway, escape to Kangaroo Island. There’s plenty see here with 1,600 km of roads snaking around the island. Take it easy and have a gander up in the trees, you just might catch a few cute koalas hanging out at Flinders Chase National Park. Admire odd wind-sculpted rocks that are surrounding the area and take a walk on the wild side with some furry seals or little penguins which hang out in Penneshaw.

Going bush

If you need a glass of wine to relax for the night, then get on the road at Wangaratta, also known as Cathedral City, and follow the old railroad tracks through winery-dotted roadways. Keep following the road through Mount Buffalo for gorgeous waterfalls, remarkable rock formations, and horseback riding. There’s also a brewery in the area with boutique beers. If you’re here during autumn, enjoy the golden tree vistas and the Ovens River along the way.

The Great Ocean Road

Australia’s most popular and incredible is the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. Is it worth the hype? As the road winds its way along the coast and vista after vista of storm blasted sandstone, salt sprayed beaches and low lying heather opens up ahead of you, I’ll let you be the judge. The Twelve Apostles (now ten) are remnants of stone that have been worn away by sea and wind. Other popular formations include the Arch and the Grotto. Along the way make sure you’ve budgeted plenty of time to explore the seaside towns, rainforest walks, delicious eateries, and more.

The Grand Pacific Drive

Another fantastic coastal road trip has to be the Grand Pacific Drive. The impressive Sea Cliff Bridge has some pretty dramatic views, swinging out over the water from perpendicular cliffs. The Grand Pacific Drive takes you past the lovely country town of Berry, as well as the famed blowhole at Kiama, which boasts a 7 mile beach. Final destination? The white sands of Jervis Bay, where relaxation awaits.
